History（历史）

The Architecture Program at NCU is accredited by the China National Board of Architectural Accreditation (NBAA). It is a five-year undergraduate program that awards a Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch) degree upon graduation.

The program, established in 1959 at Jiangxi Industrial College, was temporarily suspended in 1961 due to national economic challenges. It resumed enrollment in 1981. Following the establishment of Nanchang University (Jiangxi University merged with Jiangxi Industrial University to form Nanchang University) in 1993, the program length was extended from four to five years.

Recognized as a Jiangxi provincial-level brand program in 1998, it began admitting master’s students in the related sub-discipline the same year. The program has successfully passed the National Architectural Education Assessment in three consecutive cycles—2013, 2017, and 2021.

In recent years, the program has achieved several significant milestones: it was approved as a Master’s program in First-Class Disciplines in 2018, selected as a Jiangxi Provincial First-Class Undergraduate Program Construction Site in 2020, and as a National-level First-Class Undergraduate Program Construction Site in 2021.

Faculty（师资队伍）

The Architecture program at NCU boasts a strong faculty of 30 members, bringing together expertise from China’s prestigious “Top Eight” architecture universities—such as Tongji University, Southeast University, Harbin Institute of Technology, and South China University of Technology—as well as leading overseas institutions. Among the faculty are 3 professors, 16 associate professors, and 11 lecturers. In terms of qualifications, 26 hold a master’s degree or higher, including 7 with doctoral degrees. Additionally, 11 faculty members have international educational experience. Beyond academia, our faculty members possess extensive professional practice experience: 12 are National First-Class Registered Architects, 5 are Registered Urban and Rural Planners, and 4 hold both credentials.

The Architecture program at NCU is dedicated to its core mission of providing a holistic, virtue-centered education. It adheres to the principle of “prioritizing undergraduate education and returning to core academic values,” while being guided by a professional ethos that is deeply rooted in Jiangxi and characterized by a distinctive focus, a practice-oriented approach, and a dedication to serving the local community. The program aims to cultivate practical, versatile, and innovative senior professionals in architecture. In recent years, the Department of Architecture has continuously enhanced its academic standing, strengthened its faculty, and innovated its talent development model, establishing a distinctive and well-defined professional identity.
