Founded in January 2022, the School of Architecture and Design was formed through the integration of the Architecture and Urban-Rural Planning programs (previously part of the School of Civil Engineering) and design-focused programs (previously part of the School of Art and Design). The School comprises four departments and one division: the Department of Architecture, the Department of Industrial Design, the Department of Art and Design, the Department of Urban-Rural Planning, and the Division of Basic Courses. It currently offers four undergraduate programs: Architecture, Urban-Rural Planning, Environmental Design, and Industrial Design. Among these, the Architecture and Environmental Design programs are recognized as National First-Class Undergraduate Program Construction Sites. The Architecture and Industrial Design programs are designated as Jiangxi Provincial-level Brand Programs. The Urban-Rural Planning and Industrial Design programs are also designated as Provincial First-Class Undergraduate Program Construction Sites. At the graduate level, the school offers two first-level academic master's programs (Architecture, Design) and two professional master's programs (Design, Industrial Design Engineering). The School prides itself on a robust, professionally structured faculty team, predominantly made up of promising young and middle-aged scholars, most holding doctoral degrees. Currently, the school has 135 faculty and staff members, with 112 serving as full-time teachers: including 17 professors, 56 associate professors, 3 doctoral supervisors, and 70 master's supervisors. The faculty includes 1 member of Ministry of Education’s Teaching Advisory Board for Industrial Design, 1 member of the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development’s Science and Technology Committee, 1 expert for reviewing key projects of the "13th Five-Year Plan" of the Ministry of Science and Technology, 2 standing directors of the China Industrial Design Association, 1 standing director of the Industrial Design Institute of the Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society, 1 standing director of the Institute of Interior Design of the Architectural Society of China, 1 standing committee member of the Design Committee of China Packaging Federation, 1 vice president of the National Industrial Design Research Institute, 1 executive vice president of the Jiangxi Industrial Design Association, 3 provincial-level academic leaders in higher education, and 6 outstanding young and middle-aged master teachers. The school is also home to one of the university’s first Master Counselor Studios, which has cultivated a professional, high-quality counselor team: politically steadfast, capable, morally upright, and committed to nurturing well-rounded students through value-led education. In recent years, 3 teachers from the school have been awarded the title of Distinguished Teachers in Ideological and Political Education by the Ministry of Education, and 2 have been named National Outstanding Innovation and Entrepreneurship Mentors.The school has also been approved for a number of prestigious collective teaching honors: the Ministry of Education Ideological and Political Education Demonstration Teaching Team, Jiangxi Provincial Ideological and Political Education Demonstration Teaching Team, and Jiangxi Provincial High-level Undergraduate Teaching Team. Faculty members of the school have received numerous provincial-level teaching awards, including 13 provincial teaching achievement awards, 2 first prizes and one second prize for provincial-level Outstanding Textbooks, and 1 second prize in the provincial multimedia courseware competition. In curriculum development, the school has gained approval for 1 national-level ideological and political education demonstration course, 2 provincial-level ideological and political education demonstration courses, 1 course listed in the first batch of national first-class undergraduate courses, 1 course in the second batch of national first-class undergraduate courses, 2 courses included in the Jiangxi Provincial Talent Cultivation and Sharing Plan for Higher Education, 3 provincial-level high-quality resource-sharing courses, 1 provincial-level virtual simulation experimental teaching project, and 7 provincial-level first-class undergraduate courses. Additionally, 2 courses have been launched on the Xuexi Qiangguo platform, 5 on the Chinese University MOOC platform, 3 on the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Project Platform, and 1 outstanding "Understanding China" course for international students on the Xueyin Online platform. The faculty of the school has published over 40 textbooks and more than 20 high-level educational reform papers. The school has also forged partnerships with numerous government agencies and enterprises and institutions, hosting special lectures, seminars and competitions, and establishing more than 40 practice teaching bases for undergraduate and graduate students. Since 2022, faculty members have published over 300 academic papers in core or higher-tier journals, including more than 30 papers in journals ranked within CAS Zone 2 or above, over 70 papers in CSSCI-indexed journals, more than 40 papers indexed by EI, and over 60 papers in Chinese Core Journals. Among these, 2 papers have been fully reprinted by publications such as the Cultural and Creative Industries review by the Renmin University of China, and 9 papers have been included in ISTP. Additionally, they have published more than 30 academic monographs. Faculty members have conducted and completed a wide range of research projects. These include 4 projects funded by the National Social Science Foundation (NSSF), 1 sub-project under an NSSF Major Bidding Program, 5 projects from the National Natural Science Foundation (NSFC), 1 of the first batch of New Liberal Arts Research and Reform Practice Projects from the Ministry of Education, 1 of the first batch of Industry-Academia Collaboration and Education Programs from the Ministry of Education, and 2 Humanities and Social Sciences Projects from the Ministry of Education. Additionally, they have undertaken over 200 Government-Sponsored /Enterprise-Commissioned Research Projects at the provincial/ministerial level. The total research funding secured exceeds 90 million RMB. Their work has been honored with more than 10 awards, including the Jiangxi Provincial Outstanding Achievement Awards in Social Sciences and in Educational Science. The school actively promotes the integration of research and education, as well as industry and education. To address national strategic priorities, particularly in enhancing Jiangxi’s urban system and urban functionality in the new era, it leverages 4 key research platforms: the Urban-Rural Planning and Design Institute, the Rural Construction Research Institute, the Industrial Design Research Institute (a Provincial Industrial Design Center), and the Brand Design Research Institute. These platforms support the advancement of interdisciplinary education and foster a new model of collaborative development among disciplinary clusters. The school currently hosts several robust interdisciplinary research teams, with expertise spanning urban-rural integrated planning, smart cities, green building, urban design, urban renewal, rural construction, traditional village conservation, landscape architecture planning and design, smart lighting, smart health, information product design, and brand strategy. In recent years, faculty and students have achieved outstanding results in numerous domestic and international competitions. Notable awards include the Gold Prize of the 4th China International College Students' “Internet+” Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, the Overall Champion of the 7th China International College Students' “Internet+” Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, the Third Prize of the 18th "Challenge Cup" National College Student Academic Science and Technology Competition, the Second Prize of the 19th "Challenge Cup" National College Student Academic Science and Technology Competition, one Silver Award and one Bronze Award of the 2025 China International College Student Innovation Competition. Success has also been secured at prestigious international design contests such as the German Red Dot Design Award, iF Design Award, International Design Excellence Awards (IDEA), and the World University Students’ Bridge Design Competition. Additionally, the School has received over 200 awards in various national and provincial competitions, including the National Outstanding Urban-Rural Planning and Design Award, the NCDA National College Digital Art and Design Competition, the "Lanqiao Cup" National Software and Information Technology Talent Competition, the China Packaging Creative Design Competition, the National College Architectural and Environmental Design Art Competition, the Cross-Strait College Students Architectural Design Competition, the Milan Design Week - Exhibition of Excellent Works by Teachers and Students from Chinese Universities in Design, the National College Students Innovation Experience Competition, the Jiangxi Provincial Outstanding Urban-Rural Planning and Design Award, Jiangxi Provincial Excellent Engineering Survey and Design Award as well as the Jiangxi Star Award.About the School of Architecture and Design
