Program Introduction（城乡规划专业介绍 ）

Launched in 2003, the Urban and Rural Planning program at NCU was the first five-year undergraduate program of its kind in Jiangxi Province. Guided by the ethos of “drawing inspiration from the Jinggangshan Spirit and upholding moral education; responding to national strategies and serving local needs; fostering interdisciplinary synthesis and encouraging innovative critical thinking; grounding in Jiangxi culture and aspiring to a global vision,” the program leverages NCU’s comprehensive academic environment and distinct interdisciplinary strengths. It is dedicated to cultivating high-caliber planning professionals with a broad knowledge base, solid foundational skills, and strong spatial design capabilities. Graduates typically pursue careers in urban and rural planning, development, management, teaching, and research within planning institutes, government agencies, universities, and research organizations. In the coming decades, driven by major national initiatives such as new urbanization, integrated urban-rural development, rural revitalization, and urban renewal, the field of urban and rural planning is expected to offer exceptionally promising career prospects.

Faculty team（师资队伍）

After years of development, the program has built a well-structured, interdisciplinary faculty. Among the full-time faculty members, 91.6% hold a master’s degree or higher, over 40% have international study or research experience, and 53.8% are certified as Registered Urban and Rural Planners. The program also invites renowned domestic and international scholars as visiting professors. The faculty’s achievements comprise the following: presiding over a project funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China; undertaking more than 100 provincial/ministerial-level research and planning projects including three major commissioned projects, each valued at over 3 million RMB. Additionally, they have published over 80 journal papers (domestic and international), one monograph, and six textbooks (published or in preparation). They have also won more than 10 awards, such as the National Teaching Innovation Award, Provincial Science and Technology Progress Awards, and Outstanding Planning and Design Awards. Under their guidance, students have won more than 50 awards in competitions at the provincial/ministerial level or above.

Teaching, Research, and Discipline Development Platforms（教学科研与学科建设平台）

The Urban and Rural Planning curriculum focuses on the fundamental knowledge and theory. Students receive training in planning principles, procedures, methods, and design application, developing the ability to address complex interactions between urban-rural development and the natural, social, and historical environments. The program cultivates the essential qualities needed for professional practice in planning design and management.
